HeartMind Shiatsu is a community of learners dedicated to increasing the presence of positive contact and healthy interaction for personal growth and fulfillment. We release the bonds of shaming and blaming, cultivate the five freedoms of perception, thought, feeling, wants and choice, so that each person in our community is recognized for the sovereign and unique being that they are. When people enter into our circle of growth and cultivation they find a home that they have been dreaming of, waiting for, imagining could be. Each person is supported not just in cultivating their ability to heal others, but truly discovering the tools that will help them heal themselves.

At HeartMind Shiatsu we look to the classics of ancient Chinese medicine as our main framework of study, and learn to discern the patterns of natural qi energy flow that connect us all to the primordial ground of being.
We know that we are ever and always connected in breath to the great flow of life. As such, we transcend anything that could be called ethnic. This is not Chinese medicine. This is human medicine. And it comes alive in each of us on our human walk, and our willingness to awaken in each moment to all that our experience has to reveal.
In this great endeavor, we follow the three pillars of practice. 1. To practice. 2. To gain experience. 3. To awaken to insight. From our practice we gain experience. From our experience we awaken to insights. And we take our insights back into our practice. From there we gain more, and ever deepening experience. And more and more layers of insight reveal themselves to us, as we continue.

The HeartMind Shiatsu training journey is a deep dive into embracing the path toward developing skillful means as an Asian Bodywork Therapist. Our training meets and exceeds the national standards set by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia. Our exceptional curriculum spans 18 months, and allows the time and space for you to mature into the discipline and practice and for it to yield its bountiful blessings as you flower into a skilled therapist.
In HeartMind Shiatsu we help you to cultivate the healer within, so that you may realize through honest endeavor to gain a skill set that will serve you for life. What makes the HeartMind Shiatsu training distinct from other Shiatsu trainings?
A robust and joyous style of energetic bodywork, HeartMind Shiatsu brings extensive self-exploration to the forefront of the practice. Matthew Sweigart, author of Pathways of Qi and Touching Ki, and a Master of Asian Bodywork Therapy, was a long time student and senior Instructor of the Ohashi Institute, with more than 30 years clinical and classroom experience. He developed the HeartMind Shiatsu stylistic approach by innovating from the core teachings of the Ohashiatsu® floor-based technique, combined with the powerful and inspiring concepts of Classical Chinese Medicine on a foundation of the Masunaga Zen Shiatsu Kyo/Jitsu, Mother/Messenger Hand bodywork approach. Qigong movement, enhanced therapeutic relationship support and deep personal cultivation highlight the HeartMind Shiatsu training. In the United States there are more than 10 styles of Shiatsu recognized by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA®).
