What We Offer
To create health and harmony in community through teaching timeless holistic healing philosophy, healing touch, movement and life energy cultivation.
To awaken the energy of timeless wisdom traditions, to cultivate a way of being, in a wholesome lifestyle, that enables you to tap into the abundant healing energy of the universe.
To heal the many wounds of time and circumstance and support each student on a journey to their own wholeness. To help you to “Stand like a mountain, and flow like a river” in all aspects of life. And to teach you how to help others do the same.
“The energy that keeps the earth orbiting the sun, and the moon orbiting the earth, and all the growing things to live and thrive on this amazing blue/green planet, is the very energy that can heal your life, and all those whom you touch with healing grace.”
We realize that this is a journey, and each of us is on our path to deeper and fuller ability to live from a place of healing whole-heartedness. We release the bonds of shaming and blaming, cultivate the five freedoms of perception, thought, feeling, wants and choice, so that each person in our community is recognized for the sovereign and unique being that they are. When people enter into our circle of growth and cultivation they find a home that they have been dreaming of, waiting for, imagining could be. Each person is supported not just in cultivating their ability to heal others, but truly discovering the tools that will help them heal themselves.
This is the path of the healer, to consistently commit to this deepening of wisdom connection. To draw from the classics, to be inspired by the masters who have preserved the healing traditions through the generations. At HeartMind Shiatsu we look to the classics of ancient Chinese medicine as our main framework of study, and learn to discern the patterns of natural qi energy flow that connect us all to the primordial ground of being.
We know that we are ever and always connected in breath to the great flow of life. As such, we transcend anything that could be called ethnic. This is not Chinese medicine. This is human medicine. And it comes alive in each of us on our human walk, and our willingness to awaken in each moment to all that our experience has to reveal.
In this great endeavor, we follow the three pillars of practice. 1. To practice. 2. To gain experience. 3. To awaken to insight. From our practice we gain experience. From our experience we awaken to insights. And we take our insights back into our practice. From there we gain more, and ever deepening experience. And more and more layers of insight reveal themselves to us, as we continue.
A word of caution from the teachers of the wisdom tradition.
“Better never to get started! Once started, better finish!”
If you choose to get started, the HeartMind culture is here to support you as you continue, and help you to finish in a good way with power, grace and beauty in your healing touch!
In HeartMind Shiatsu we help you to cultivate the healer within, so that you may realize through honest endeavor to gain a skill set that will serve you for life. This is true vocational career education that can build within you the healer’s heartmind, that you may embody this healing practice in your every day life, and shine the light of holistic health high for all to benefit. Full descriptions of our training lie in the many pages of this site, and you are invited to enter in with us, to the profound realm of the high healing arts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the HeartMind Shiatsu training distinct from other Shiatsu trainings?
A robust and joyous style of energetic bodywork, HeartMind Shiatsu brings extensive self-exploration to the forefront of the practice. Matthew Sweigart, author of Pathways of Qi and Touching Ki, and a Master of Asian Bodywork Therapy, was a long time student and senior Instructor of the Ohashi Institute, with more than 30 years clinical and classroom experience. He developed the HeartMind Shiatsu stylistic approach by innovating from the core teachings of the Ohashiatsu® floor-based technique, combined with the powerful and inspiring concepts of Classical Chinese Medicine on a foundation of the Masunaga Zen Shiatsu Kyo/Jitsu, Mother/Messenger Hand bodywork approach. Qigong movement, enhanced therapeutic relationship support and deep personal cultivation highlight the HeartMind Shiatsu training. In the United States there are more than 10 styles of Shiatsu recognized by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA®). Each of the various styles have their own differentiations of focus in theory and practice, primarily derived from the unique contributions of Master teachers that distinguished themselves in clinical practice. With a quick survey of the AOBTA.org you can explore the various recognized styles.
